Which tado° do you need?
Built up to suit your home
tado° is modular: start with the thermostat and add what your home needs. We check your boiler and radiators on the survey so you buy the right kit first time.
Starter kit with hot water control
If you have a hot water tank, you need the starter kit with hot water control so tado° can schedule that too. Combi boilers don’t need it.
Smart radiator valves
tado°’s own radiator valves give every room its own schedule and temperature. Start with the rooms you use most and add more later.
The honest bit
tado° is built for DIY. So why have it fitted?
Plenty of people fit tado° radiator valves themselves, and that’s fine. The parts worth having done properly are:
- The wiring at your boiler. If tado° replaces a programmer or wired thermostat, that’s mains-voltage work on your heating controls.
- The right kit. Getting heating-only when you have a tank, or valves that don’t suit your radiators, means a second order and a second go.
- A whole-house setup. Several rooms, valves and schedules take time to get right. We set it all up with you so it works the way you live.

How installation works
Usually done in a single visit
Survey
We look at your boiler, the wiring at your existing controls and your radiator valves, plan which rooms get smart valves, and check your Wi-Fi. You get a clear quote before any work starts.
Boiler wiring
With the power isolated, we wire tado° in place of your old programmer or thermostat, then check the boiler fires and switches off properly.
Valves and bridge
Smart radiator valves go onto your chosen radiators, the bridge goes on your router, and every device is paired room by room.
Handover
We set up the app with you, name and schedule each room, connect your smart home if you use one, and show you how away mode works.

FAQs
tado° installation questions
Can you install tado° yourself?
Partly, yes. The smart radiator valves are designed to be fitted without tools. The thermostat is a different job if it replaces a programmer wired to the mains at your boiler. That’s electrical work, and getting it wrong can stop your heating.
Do I need a plumber to install tado°?
No. There’s no plumbing and nothing to drain down. The radiator valves fit onto the existing valves on your radiators, and the work at the boiler is wiring, not pipework.
Do I need tado° on all my radiators?
No. Many people start with the rooms they use most, like the living room and bedrooms, and add valves to other rooms later. We’ll help you decide on the survey.
Do I need a tado° subscription?
Not to control your heating. The app, schedules and room control work without one. tado°’s paid Auto-Assist subscription adds automatic away mode. Without it, the app sends you a reminder to turn the heating down instead.
How much does it cost to install tado°?
